Hi Have booked car hire at the airport and want to check if my UK photo licence is sufficient or should I get an International Driving licence to be on the safe side?

Firstly, the UK does not set driving or rental requirements for countries, only they do. its also clear from rental sites you need one, you might get trhough without, you might not. The UK gov. does not dictate this.
In order to hire a car in Spain you will need to have a full UK driving licence, an International Driving Permit (if your UK licence was not issued by mainland authorities), your valid passport or National ID card for EU citizens as identification and a credit card to pay for the car hire deposit.
