Car hire scam OK Car Rental AVOID
I have used OK Rentals a couple of times and found them, well, OK! They're offsite but minibus transfer is quick and less queues at the desk than the onsite companies. However, I had booked a car for Saturday 15th Feb for a week and arrived to collect it. Like many regular car hirers, I have taken out damage excess insurance in the UK as it's much cheaper than the extortionate prices charged by the hire car companies. When I refused OK's damage excess waiver insurance at €119 p.w. they told me that they "Now have permission to charge much more than the usual excess figure" and produced a list of charges up to €7,000! I stood firm and refused so they then proceeded to do the usual reserve charge of €1050 on my credit card. Later, I called my UK Insurer for advice on this and they said that this sounded very much like a scam. The only charge they can make is what is stated on the contract, in my case €900 for the group my car was in. Producing a separate piece of paper with a list of types of damage and the charges has no legal basis and is clearly designed to scare customers into taking out their insurance. In any case, my credit card does not have €7000 of credit available and they didn't even check this. ANOTHER CAR HIRE COMPANY TO AVOID!
