Perhaps with the new emissions law/requirements that will come into force at sometime, it might be worth checking out what the car you have in mind will require.

I'd put the stress on "sometime", and it's still unknown what every council has in mind, and if the final outcome will not be overruled by a court.

Torrevieja has cameras going up left, right and centre. When will they become operational is anyone’s guess. It is important to know about the emission side of motoring when buying a car these days.

Hi Kate,
If you're buying from a garage, ask whether the sale price includes the transfer tax and make it a condition of purchase that the garage complete the transfer.
If buying privately, agree with the seller who will pay the transfer tax - I'd suggest splitting it, so that both parties have a vested interest in ensuring it is done. The safest option is to engage a gestor who will draw up the contract of sale and calculate the amount of transfer tax due - ideally, both you and the seller should attend the gestor together.
I also recommend Liberty Seguros for your insurance cover.
Kind regards,
Kim

I would suggest for anything to do with driving that you have a look at the N332 website. It is for English speaking people and is run in collaboration with officers of the Guardia Civil. It has an English version of the Spanish equivalent of the Highway Code on it.
