That report should be read carefully and between the lines. Successive opening dates were postponed again and agin during the past 6 years, and there are still too many items pending clarification including several lawsuits.

The airlines seem pretty confident it will be open by Spring (official date is January as already said) as they are taking bookings for flights for next summer.  Things have never got to this stage before so it looks like it is finally going to happen, but it wouldn't surprise me if it is a couple of months late opening.

The number of bookings will give air companies an idea about their possible business volume. Taking bookings at this time does by no means grant that flights will really take off. When Air Berlin moved out of San Javier, I received an SMS saying that my flight booked from there would leave from Alicante instead, together with a compensation of 50,- for the inconveniences. And that was it.
