Check your passport after being stamped on entry to Spain.

Make sure after you have presented your UK passport to the Spanish border control, to be checked and stamped, that you check the date.

My friends who arrived back in Spain on the 4th of January 2022, had to use their passports at the Bank. At the Alicante airport when they arrived they went to different border control desks, one had their passport stamped 04/01/2022 but the other was stamped 04/01/2021!!!!! Obviously someone has made a grave mistake, so there must be others with an incorrect entry stamp.

Now she's going to have to prove she entered on the 4th of January 2022 not 2021, as otherwise she will have a big fine.

Its easy just to take your passport when its given back to you and put it in your bag without checking.

Thanks for the warning. To be honest I never check a stamp that I get at any airport. I would recommend that your friend has a copy of their flight details, ideally the boarding pass. I don't think it is a big issue as they track entry&exit via airline provided information also and hold that on a database.

When my wife and I left Alicante in Oct 21 we never got a exit stamp, no-one from border control around. We came back 8th Jan, passport stamped at Alicante airport without any issue.

If your friend with the incorrect stamp is a resident of Spain then it will be clear to Immigration that a mistake was made. Non-residents were not allowed to arrive in Spain for several months from 21-Dec 2020. If they are travelling together next time then showing them both passports together will be further evidence. Immigration officers are reasonable people who are capable of thinking and acting with discretion in my experience.

I've never bothered to check either, but I will be from now on.

Gordon, They are not residents and if they were they wouldn't need their passport stamped. However its a bad mistake to stamp a persons passport with an incorrect date. A whole year ! Does anyone know, where they should go to. I've told them to get all their documents together and contact Eazy jet if necessary.
