Probably more so this time of year, what is scary drinking culture, I would say the curse of retired brits, all come and listen to this person or group singing at 5 pm, cheap booze, you find people falling into the trap, alas you spend very little and end up on a dangerous path.

Perhaps the big danger of Spain, especially with so much time on your hands.

Sorry but seen so many people go to bars at 2 and roll out at 10. Enjoy your self of course buy be careful.

I like the clock watching! (Is this "above the yard-arm). I often meet with our local friends, some (many) old, & some young........ I have a meet-up &  rise at 0600h and will see them with a glass of wine together with a tostada smothered in oil & off to work. I will see them later with a brandy or beer around 1100h. I´ll catch up with them later with their family around 2200h having a glass of wine & food with their families & grandchildren, (some do......some don´t).

I have always seen most of them courtesy & careful. We are going through our town  "Fiestas" at the moment, & drink a "little" more! I am, of course talking of the local Spanish. I´ll pass on the advice. Be careful!

I do take your point about how easy it is to slip into the drinking culture.

We notice it more when friends who have properties visit for a few weeks, it's " pop round for drinks" G & T's, wine, beer etc etc.

Pre-lunch or pre-dinner drinks are the norm, we try to explain that whilst we do not want to be party poopers we limit our drinking to a glass of wine on Friday and Saturday night, we understand they are on holiday and just like we did when we were on holiday more often than not we drank every day.

Hi Daggers, I was  most tempted to say 'Cheers' for those keen observations and wise advice ,but was afraid, by some,  it could be seen at 'Best' , Bitter ' 🙂.

I do acknowledge the basis, and validity of your remarks and personally  believe its each to their own on how they wish to spend their free time , providing, of course, that does  not impede on the quality of lives of others around them.

Just my thoughts, I dont wish to RUMmble on on and come across like I am WINE ing on about it ,as I am naturally of a quite 'Mild' nature, nor risk being BARred from here, so I will leave it there , I'm off now ,as my favourite TV programme  is on catch up.

The Chaser  😀

I'm "nipping" out for a winter warmer! With all this snow under-foot, walking on the pavements is a little whisky! But, I'll give it a shot! V

RayD, I hear from Villas there is snow underfoot around his regions 😮,  I must say a wee small dram, or two, could be very welcome in preventing discomfort if the same around the baleares Regions. 🙂

Having lived, worked and travelled throughout Spain .

I've seen GUARDIA CIVIL having THEIR " chupita" of brandy with "tostada de catalan" at 6am . Normal worker's having wine or beer with Their breakfast, wine or tinto verano, at lunchtime then going home and having wine with their evening meal.

Viva la Vida Espana.
