Good morning.

I've just become aware of a petition circulating re the Suma charge for bins. I was unaware that the charge in the Cabo Roig area was well above the normal fee being charge elsewhere etc. Also I believe there is an online form you can complete to get a reduction in payment.

I simply have no idea where to find either link and what the criteria might be. Any advice or hyperlinks would be appreciated.

Pay a lower specified waste collection fee and a higher general IBI bill or vice versa. All pointless posturing by people with too much time on their hands. (There's been a number of threads here around how councils can no longer subside elements of their services and waste collection is one which resulted in fee increases across each council albeit at noticeable differing %ages).

A quick google suggests that there are a number of court cases ongoing in respect of this across wider Spain so I would imagine getting involved by signing a local petition is an irrelevance in the overall scheme of things. If the existing legal actions comes to anything, then we might see the impact on our bills by the time our great grandchildren have inherited the property.

All of Orihuela Costa went up considerably. The previous fees were a lot lower than those in some areas of Orihuela and they increased them to even the payment. However, they went up to one of the highest on the Costa Blanca. It's the Independent Party of Orihuela that is supporting the petition which you can read all about on Change.org

Reductions can be applied for if you have a large family, are earning under the living wage, have disabled members of the family, single parent families, victims of gender based violence etc. You must be a permanent resident on the padron in order to apply for a reduction.

SUMA is responsible for the collection of the tax and you can contact them to see if you can apply for a reduction or you can contact Orihuela town hall directly for information.

Thank you for the response. You've told me exactly what I needed to know. Great help.

Cheers.
