Looking for true or false answer, I am looking at the residency process, not pension age, so going along with private medical insurance, I have an existing controlled condition, which will be excluded from my insurance with all the Spanish medical insurers, a number of people have said if your policy carries an exclusion, residency will be denied, because the policy does not provide full cover, any opinions would be great.

True.

There have been reports here and elsewhere about insurance companies providing a certificate that their policies do comply with the requirements with clients being told to offer only that and NOT the actual policy itself because if it's properly scrutinised it will be found to be non compliant.

What you have to remember is that a policy which genuinely offers complete and unrestricted cover, with no exclusions, excesses, or co-payments,as it must, is the equivalent of writing a blank cheque and that's something no insurance company can afford to do and stay in business!

Whomever you go with ask them to send you an email stating simply that their policy is without exclusions, excesses, or co-payment, if they won't then their cover is not.

We went through the process just before lockdown, which was successful.

Both my wife and I are in the same position as you regarding age and private health insurance.

We went with Salus health care, yet to see how good they are. However importantly we both have exclusions due to previous historic treatments, (nothing current) however still listed as exclusions in the policy. This was no obstacle to our residency application and did not cause us any issues.

During the application for the health policy the agent encouraged us to list any historic health history, for example I have had cartilage trims to both knees, this was assessed by a doctor at application process and excluded for further treatment, however knee replacement at any further stage remained covered.

The residency requirement lists require your full attention to ensure success, there are differences in the police offices used for applications, this appears to be random, but there are some that seem more accepting of evidence produced for each application, obviously each application includes many 'points to prove' and is individual. A bit of homework on where to go may help in your progress.
