My wife and I are over 65.  Can we get free healthcare in Spain after we have been there 6 months.  I have read somewhere that you can transfer from UK healthcare to Spanish healthcare.  Is this correct.  Patrick

Have you got an S1 form yet - obtained from Newcastle. Take that to your local medical centre where you need to be registered.

Not sure about that Patrick. Hopefully someone else will have the answer to that. If you want to talk to someone (we did & she was very helpful, in fact we employed her as our accountant), then Isabel (Spanish but fluent English speaker) runs a business at Gran Alicante. FAB (Foreign Advisory Bureau). TEL no is 609 741 724. If you do then please tell her I recommended her. Good luck.

Cheers,

Nicky

Hi Patrick,

Just a note about how we got on.

We moved to Playa Flamenca last November. You must get the S1 forms from the UK. Pensions office. Just ring them, they are very helpful. We applied for them before we came out here, giving them a moving date which we guessed. We were taken to the Padron at the town hall in December (you don't have to wait any length of time). There was a delay in getting our SIP cards because we had to prove our state pensions with original documents. Make sure you bring all your original bank statements and HMRC/Pension letters with you. It took me about 5-6 weeks to get bank statements from Lloyds. The post is very slow here. They required 6 months bank statements, and letters stating what our pensions were. Even with the delay, we still got our SIP cards during February. You do need to have a 'Residencia' though. The solicitor we used to purchase the house took us to get this and also the NIE, which is a number like our NI number.

Regards, Sheila

Thanks Sheila.     Many thanks for this information.    My only problem might be that I do online banking and don't have paper statements.  I'm sure Halifax can provide them.  As always information invaluable.  Thanks.   patrick

Yes, same as me with the online banking. The ones that you can print off don't have your addess on, so that's why I had to ask Lloyds to send me them. It would have been easier if I'd got them before I moved.
