Hi I wonder if anyone can advise me as to what I can do to speed up my husbands referral?

My husband has prostrate cancer and was receiving great care with continuity back in the UK. We moved to Spain in November last year and he was due a 3 month injection in January which never happened due to having temporary SIP cards. We niw have permanent cards and husband has a named GP who he saw 3 weeks ago and she sent an email to the oncologist at torrevieja hospital. As yet we have not gad any communication from them and husband us now well overdue with his treatment. I am besides myself with worry. We have made an appointment with his FP again but it's not until the 17th of this month....please can anyone tell me what else we can be doing

You can try to see if they have any info at the Servicio de Atención e Información al Paciente (Patient (Information) desk in Torrevieja Hospital.

This info below is from a Help Vega Baja information sheet

OPENING HOURS • Weekdays from Monday to Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. • Weekdays Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. HOW TO CONTACT US? The SAIP is located on Floor -1 of the hospital, in the main lobby, next to the reception desk. The procedures (claims of appointments, tests, various information, etc.) or any other doubt can be carried out:

I'm so sorry to hear your worrying & distress concerning your husband. I've always used a translator iro healthcare & hospital appointments. Have you not tried that? They can then find out & put your mind at rest. Good luck x

Thank you. We initially had a translator with us and also had his current medical records translated so we did everything right, it's just we haven't heard anything back from the hospital.

Hi,

I am sorry to hear about your husband. When I moved from the UK, and prior to obtaining my SIP card, I went to the private doctor near the arches for a hormone injection.  I had no problem getting the injection and you don't need a translator because a lady there speaks very good English. At a cost of 360€, it was expensive but worth it as I considered my health to be more important than money. When I obtained my SIP card, my doctor gave me a prescription for the remaining injections (5 in total). When due, I collected each injection from the farmacia and made an appointment with a nurse at the Salud. I make an appointment with my doctor every six months to have my PSA level checked. I  hope that this information is useful and I wish that all goes well for your husband. Please send me a private message if you want more information.
