Can anyone advise if there is an exemption certificate or Lanyard we can get for non-mask wearing in Spain? We are travelling next week and will be staying in Cabo Roig area. My wife has a skin allergy and cannot wear a mask. Is the UK type accepted?

Or is it absolutely mandatory?

Thanks

Face masks are mandatory in Spain. You must wear a face mask at all times except when eating and drinking.

I don't think that the local police would be accepting any letters written in English. They might be acceptable translated into Spanish with an apostle stamp.

There exceptions from wearing a mask in public spaces for anyone with diesnea symptoms other other breathing difficulties. There is no rule how this has to be proved.

Police in this area are not enforcing mask rules and mostly not wearing masks themselves.  It's shops where you will have a problem as they are still liable to fines if they allow their customers not to wear one.  My wife's doctor's note has not been respected and some staff have been quite rude so you really don't have any choice there.  Nearly everyone wears a mask in the street still, but often below the nose or under the chin and no-one does on the beach (where it's not required anyway).

I'm surprised that you are saying this Gordon......."Nearly everyone wears a mask in the street still, but often below the nose or under the chin"

The police are still enforcing the mask rules here in Benidorm so I'm surprised that they are not in Finestrat.

I've just got back home from Rincon area and everyone is wearing their masks in a proper manner.

People are certainly wearing them in this area, including the police - which is just as well, because the national government of Spain passed a new law on 30 March this year which mandates the wearing of mask in ALL settings, including on the beach.

The BOE is in Spanish, but it says that, "Masks must always be worn in:

- Public road or outdoor spaces

- Closed spaces

- Passenger transport

Exceptions are included for people with breathing difficulties, or disability which prevents an individual from being able to remove their mask without help, but no indication is given of how specific medical conditions are supposed to be evidenced if challenged by the police.  As the BOE is in Spanish, I have included a link to a report from El Pais instead:

https://english.elpais.com/society/2021-03-30/new-law-introduces-stricter-face-mask-rules-in-spain.html

Jessiepat123 - has your wife tried "double masking"?  She could wear a hypoallegenic material next to her skin with a regular mask over the top.

Kind regards,

Kim

Steve, Kim, I'm describing what I see in the world outside everywhere I go, not the view from under the bed.

And I'm quoting Spanish law.  Your comment  "...no-one does on the beach (where it's not required anyway)" is incorrect.  What the police do to enforce the law locally is for individuals to see for themselves, but the OP asked a question and I'm going to give a factually correct answer, not least because I'm not going to be the one paying their fine.

I know several families who live in Finestrat, one of which runs a local bar, I will text them all to ask if they wear masks in the correct way and then get a complete picture.  I don't believe for one minute that the local police drive around without wearing masks.
