Hello,

my partner and I are looking to move to Spain sometime next year. We would be looking at renting for 6 months (minimum contract time needed for residency) and I have heard a lot of positive things about Cabo Roig. We don't drive, so is this area easy to get around by public transport/walking? I haven't been to the area yet so am just putting out 'feelers'!

Thank you

Hi,

Hope your dreams will become a reality. Cabo Roig offers life, like any place in the world, depending on your budget. You can find a lovely villa with private swimming pool, walking distance to restaurants and to the marina. Depends on who you are (age, hobbies..) what you need (medical care, culture, sport...) and what you expect. For me it is a walking distance to the La Zenia shopping centre, for somebody it could be a too expensive taxi ride. Don't expect a pristine beach and touristy strip of souvenir shops. It is not a traditional spanish fishing themed area. Some people love it, some hate it. Check it personally,  before deciding. All the best.

Thank you,  budget isn't really an issue and we would like somewhere with an expat community (don't hate me!). As it's only while we look for a permanent home in Fuerteventura we aren't fussed, don't need a pool as it will be the  autumn/winter months, access to transport is the only requirement.

Orihuela costa is the right place, if you are looking for an expat community, but the public transport is rather diluted.

Maybe we need to look at Torrevieja or Playa Flamenca?

Playa Flamenca is quite similar to Cabo Roig. Purpose build second/holiday homes places. Torrevieja is a seaside town with better infrastructure. Even a longish weekend spent in the mentioned places will give you more answers.

Torrevieja is better for transport.  Hope it works out for you.

Hi

Public transport can be problematic in Cabo Roig - depending on where you want to go and when. Use this link to see bus services https://regular.autobusing.com/info?empresa=costa-azul&locale=es

There is additionally this bus https://costazul.net/lineas-urbanas/c-c-la-zenia-boulevard-c-de-salud-aguamarina/ which trundles around the local area.

With regards walking, the coastal path is lovely, and you can walk up and down the N332 dual carriageway, but walking inland is not pleasant due to the need to cross the AP7 motorway - there is no footpath on the road bridge across it!

I suggest you consider Punta Prima/Rocio del mar, which is on the southern limit of Torrevieja - as such, it has an excellent bus service into Torrevieja itself https://costazul.net/lineas-urbanas/ and all amenities are within walking distance.

Cheers

Steve

Thank you for this, I will have a look at the area when I am there on holiday. Is there an expat community in Punta Prima?
