This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Why would someone need this, when they can download their individual vaccination record from C. Valenciana's own website at no charge?

Hi Gillyb,

Yes, I know - it was a rhetorical question to the member who has been advertising Covid certificates on a number of threads where the word "certificate" appears in the title, but their post has since been deleted 😉  I wanted to make sure that members are aware they don't have to pay for Covid certificates, or digital certificates and electronic signatures.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Lel,

You can do it yourself - here's a step by step guide:

Step 1: In order to apply for your digital certificate, follow this link https://www.sede.fnmt.gob.es/. On the right-hand side, you’ll see a button saying ‘Obtenga/Renueve su Certificado Digital’ – click on it.

On the next page, if you’re applying for yourself, click on ‘Persona Física’.

Step 2: Next, you need to download a special piece of software that allows the digital certificate to work on your computer. Click on Área de Descarga de Configurador FNMT and then select your computer operating system in order to download the correct software.

Once you have downloaded the software correctly, click on ‘Solicitar Certificado’ on the left-hand side panel.

Step 3: A new page will open asking you for all your personal information such as your NIE (the number on your TIE/DNI card or green residency certificate) plus your name and an e-mail address. When you’ve filled out all the fields, click ‘ENVIAR PETICIÓN’ to send your application.

Step 4: Once you've sent your application, a pop-up box will appear, if you've downloaded the software correctly, asking you for permission to open it.  Click on ‘Abrir’.  Another pop-up box will then appear, asking you to choose a password.  You'll need the password later, so choose one that you'll remember or record it somewhere safe. Then click ‘Aceptar’.

Step 5: After your application has been sent and your password set, you'll receive an email with an application code.  Then you need to make an appointment to visit one of the FNMT or Tax Agency offices to accredit your identity in person.  To find your nearest office, check a list of locations here.

When you get your appointment, you'll need to take your identity documents such as TIE card, DNI card or residency certificate, plus your passport and any other documents you are asked to bring with you.

Step 6: When your identity has been verified, you'll receive another e-mail with a link to download your digital certificate, as well as the same application code.  To download it correctly, it will ask you for your name, NIE and code.  Click on the option ‘Instalar Certificado’ in order to install your digital certificate onto your browser.  This means that it will pop up every time an official Spanish website, such as the ones mentioned above, requires your identity for an administrative process.

Bear in mind, your digital certificate will only be on the one device you installed it on; to install it on other devices, you'll need your application code and password, and follow the same process in Step 6 above.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Kimmy11,

Thanks for your reply! I have obtained my certificate (digital signature) back in 2019 and now it's about to expire soon (it's valid for 3 years). Do you happen to know whether I can renew it online (by using a still valid previous signature) without paying a visit to the office?

Thanks in advance!

Hi peetonn,

Yes, so long as it hasn't already expired, you can renew it online:

Thank you, Kim! This worked!

It was a bit tricky (had to renew three certificates for my family) but in the end it worked.

Few notes for posterity (used macOS):

* use Firefox browser;

* make sure you install prerequisite software -- Configurador FNMT and AutoFirma (nothing will work) -- after downloading, both apps will yell that macOS can't verify the developer, to avoid that, Option-Right-click on the file again and select "Always Open With -> Installer" and proceed with the warning;

*  when you go to Descargar certificate, the Firefox may block you by presenting "Potential Security Issue" (see image below); this typically allows to "proceed with risk" option but not in this case; without going too technical -- use this link which links directly to certificate download page -- https://apus20.cert.fnmt.es/DescargaCertificados/preDescarga.do?IDCA=PF1&TIPOCERT=F&APPID=DESCARGA_CERT&
(alternatively, if you want to go technical -- open web inspector Cmd+Option+I, locate the "iframe" and copy the source link).

Great feedback, Peetonn, especially the reminder about switching Web browsers.  I use Android and have never had a problem, but I think reading your work-around will be very helpful for Mac users👍

Many thanks,

Kim
