I am about to reach 5 years of residency in Spain  so as a UK citizen I understand I wiĺl now be able to process a TIE with  permanent resident stated on it. I  need to do that  at migración in Alicante. but I would like to know what the process is. Do they issue a me a permanent resident TIE there and then without needing to wait for anything in the post  and a return trip to Alicante ? Hoping someone may have done this recently.

Still have green residencia at the moment.

I guess the TIE probably will not be instantly issued. Perhaps someone knows  if there is a max number of days that to go and  collect it by. I would like to go away for a couple of months immediately  sfter applying for the TIE.

You need to follow the instructions on Kim’s excellent guide

https://www.costablancaforum.com/area/formentera-del-segura-spain-54/residency-in-formentera-del-segura-padron-residencia-passport-advice-23/guide-to-exchanging-residencia-for-a-tie-card-form-ex-23-117366/

The most difficult part of the process is actually obtaining the appointment in Alicante to take your application and have your fingerprints taken.

The receipt you are given has a Lote number on it which is when you can collect your card. Could be anything from 1 week to 10 weeks later  as it all depends on how busy they are. Once your card is ready, you don’t need an appointment to collect at Alicante, you just join a queue to exchange your green residencia for the TIE

Yes the guide is most helpful.

Does anyone know if we are told the TIE  card will bre ready in a week would it be a problem to collect it  much later,  - say 8 weeks later ?

If you scroll back through posts from the past 18 months, then people had left it that long before collecting the cards, so I can’t see there being too much of a problem.

I would advise that if you are travelling outside of Spain to take your acceptance letter with you,

It could be required for re-entry should either Spain change entry regulations or in the event of another global pandemic breaking out.

Hi there,

Thanks for the replies.

Do they keep your original green residence after you have finished submitting the documents at the appointment ?

Seems like maybe they do and you are left with receipt with a Lote number till you collect the actual TIE.

No you keep hold of your green residencia at the fingerprint appointment

They take it from you when you go back to collect your card
