We're buying an apartment in Lomas de Cabo Roig. We really like the area but see there is a storm drain close by. I'd like to know what people experienced in this area during the severe floods Sept 2019. Thanks

The gota fria we had in September 2019 was (hopefully) something that happens once every 100 years. So wherever you lived in the area experienced heavy flooding. We had constant heavy rain for 48 hours and so much damage was caused across the entire area. We made news headlines across the globe. So nobody really coped with that and people are still living with the consequences.

We have heavy rain at least a couple of times a year, there are no drains so water flows to its lowest level. If there’s a dip in the road outside your property it will collect there. If your garden tiles slope towards your property, then it will pool there,  Look for sand and silt deposits on the road as that is usually a clue to where flood waters settle. Fortunately any flooding caused by rain disappears almost immediately.  In most places within an hour of heavy rain, the roads are clear and you’ve no idea that previously the road was more like a river. It’s the area around the beaches that you will see the most devastation

Personally I’d rather see 12 hours of heavy rain, than 5 minutes of red rain.

Thank you very much. That is really helpful. We're back in England now while the solicitors do their bit in the purchase but it is really worrying  buying long distance in a foreign country

Hi

I live just a few Kms from Cabo Roig and am not aware of any major problems during that gota fria, apart from some nearby beaches being trashed.

Cheers

Steve
