Homeless cats

Hi there, can anyone please tell me what is the area like for homeless cats, are there many? Is there much help ie. Animal asociations etc in the area, as where i live at the moment in Almeria the problem is and always has been prity bad, lots of help for the dogs but not much for the cats hence i now have far to many, so i am writing this hoping the situation is much better there.
