I would be really grateful for some advice. We have just purchased a property in Carrio, Calpe and I am hoping to one day work from home. My work involves 'teaching online live' and I therefore rely on having an excellent internet connection. Does anyone know if this is yet possible from Carrio, Calpe? I have been told by a local provider that they could offer me 20mg but I dont think that will be enough for my requirements.

Thanks for any help.

Paula

What sort of live teaching is it you think more than 20mb for I wonder?

Very few people even know what speed they are actually getting and most grossly overestimate the speed they need for the majority of everyday Internet activities. Truth is if you take out HD video streaming and high end gaming nobody needs more than 8 to 10mb and probably would barely notice if they had 5x times that!

Thank you for your comment. I openly admit I have no idea of 'what' I need yet and I also don't appreciate what 20mg actually is. I just wanted some advice. I need an uninterrupted connection from 9 to 5 which enables me to use adobe connect to broadcast live. Currently we have fibre optic broadband in the UK so I was hoping for similar in Calpe.

Thanks

The data sheet for Adobe Connect says you require a minimum of 1.5mb upload speeds as the tutor.  More would be better.

First thing to do is speedtest your current fibre optic connection to find the upload speed.

ie:. My download speed is 10mb and upload is 1.5mb.  My WiMax connection might make the minimum requirement for Adobe Connect.

When you look for a provider around Carrio the important question to ask is “What is the upload speed?” You require an upload speed of at least 1.5mb.

Upload speeds more important for broadcasting over the net than the download speed.

If upload speed is key then 4g may be the best option.

On a recent visit to where we will be moving in about 3 weeks time a speed test on my phone gave me 44mb down and 19mb up.

Hi Paula

The best service currently supplied by small dishes in the Costa Blanca is HOLAWIFI, Monthly prices are lower than other companies and they offer higher speeds. The speed is very good, you get what you pay for and sometimes a little extra, unlike most other companies. I myself use their system and have recommended most of my customers which I don’t do lightly. I'm based in Carrio myself and use them.

Please feel free to give me a call if you would like a chat about this or any other computer related problems you may have.
