I am conducting research on British Communities within Quesada, studying how people within these communities create a sense of belonging and what violates this sense of belonging. This is a project that will be looking at community identity and understands how people connect. Answering the question below would constitute as your willingness to participate in my research and consent for me to use your answers for my research. All answers will be anonymised and there will be no identifying features used in my research. Consent, of course, can be removed at any point so if you uncomfortable at any point. Thank you!

Hi there Jaime

Have you got your tin hat on?

The contrasting opinions are “Spain will collapse without the Brits” and “No, there are other nations that support the Spanish economy” to “Spain doesn’t need tourists, or second homeowners” 🤪🥂

Thank you for the response- there is definitely a varied range of opinions. What do you think?

I don't think it will effect policy but it may well affect policy.

The economic effects of Foreign residents or second home owners are confined in the main to the Costa Blanca region and smallish areas in Andalucía, although there are a scattering throughout the country. I think it unlikely that the economic benefits derived from the foreign population of  one country are sufficient to affect material changes to policy.

The total percentage of the economy supplied by tourism is around 11% which although notable, isn’t the main source of income. It just looks like that on the Costas.

According to the most recent data, UK citizens legally resident in Spain account for just less than 1% of the total population. It's probably fair to assume that their contribution to the Spanish economy while welcome, is insignificant to the point of being almost irrelevant. The reality is that there will be no "special" deals no matter how much people shout given this unfortunately.

Paul, very well put. A quick answer to the original question is no, and no.

I feel same way as this guy.

Thought they need us more than we need them. Still, wouldn't change my vote even if I had to sell my home and go back.
