Hi

Just wanted to share our recent experience so that other people may benefit.

We live on a very quiet urbanisation in Calpe and thought we were safe and secure. It  wouldn't happen to us.

One Monday night we were in the back garden, somebody scaled the 6ft wall at the front and two handbags and contents from our open patio doors at the front were taken.

We were blasé and stupid, it can and did happen.

Furthermore the Guardia Civil refused to deal with us unless we either spoke Spanish or had our own interpreter. We are learning Spanish but we're beginners and to proficient enough to deal with that situation. Thats fair enough, its Spain.

Please be careful!

Hi Steve,

I'm so sorry to hear of what happened to you.  Losing 'stuff' is annoying, but inevitably it's usually the things of no monetary value that cause the greatest frustration and inconvenience - which is why I'm always so impressed when people in your situation still find the time to alert others, thank you.  I hope you can get the matter reported to the police.

Kind regards,

Kim

yep, payment cards, passports, driving licenses, all extremely time consuming to cancel and replace.

Sorry to hear of your experience. As you say it is the non monetary items that are the real loss. When I had my wallet stolen from my man bag in Consum at La Zenia I was starting to look into getting a replacement driving licence when the Police phoned me a couple of days later to tell me they had my wallet. My Bank Card had been blocked immediately and a replacement ordered Online, the cash was obviously gone but everything else was recovered when the wallet was tossed. Best advice is to stay vigilant both at home and when out and about.

I've heard of similar stories about opportunist thefts on the Villamartin areas where my sister lives. These lowlife tour the estates daily for opportunities to rob unsuspecting holidaymakers relaxing outside and leaving doors or windows open.
