Hola Amigos .

just home from a wonderful couple of weeks in Calp and cant wait until we return !

just wondered if any of you lovely people can help ?

we have a nice pool which is maintained every week by a great pool guy but this being our first winter don't know how to proceed ..

is it wise to fit a winter cover over the whole pool for the next 5 months as realistically it will not be used, or carry on with the pool guy throughout the winter months ?

obviously we will save electricity costs in running the pool pump and the sales people say the cover will stop growth forming as it stops sunlight getting in but will cost 1000 euros + to start with ..

would be interested to hear any views for and against from you more experienced pool owners .

thanks and best wishes Shorty

Hi I maintain my pool myself, that said there’s nothing much to do in winter. Mine is fully covered and I run the filter on a timer for 2 hours a day. I add 1 chloro tab per week and that’s it. If you can get your filter on a timer and get a friendly neighbour to drop a chlor tab in once a week, you are sorted. Make sure the pool is clean though before you cover it for winter. Good luck.

I agree with Jan, we cover ours until Easter time, and put chlorine tablets in with the pump going to keep the water circulating for a couple hours a day. It does keep it clean from the elements that winter brings
