Hello everybody, just registered on here. Can anybody give any info on NIE and register for residency before Brexit next year, as we are

looking to relocate to Calpe permanently next year purchasing a Villa with a tourist licence (or obtaining one) for a holiday let business.

any advice would be welcome

Paul

You sound very ambitious and good luck to you as next year will be very tough after Brexit.

I suggest you read "Jim's Guides" as they are a very comprehensive guide for all requirements of living in Spain such as healthcare, NIE and applying for residency.

Jim's Guides tab can be found on the Drop down menu on the top left corner.

Read Jim's Guides in a tab at the top of the page but you have to be living here to apply for Residency so if you are not moving until next year you will be classed as a non-EU immigrant unless agreements are reached.

For the Tourist Licence, Davebev1's guides: Renting out your property as a holiday let in Spain
Never take an Estate Agents word that a property will qualify for a tourist let as only the Town Hall can advise on this and never use the abogado recommended by the agent.
I can only guess that properties that already have a tourist licence will be thin on the ground for re-sale.

Edit: Pre Covid some areas were taking up to a year to process the licence and you cannot even advertise until you have it.

To apply for residence in Spain you need to be living in Spain, you can't do in advance of that.

If you're not going to move until next year then it's difficult to advise accurately because nobody really knows for sure what it will look like then.

What is for certain is that the financial requirements will become far more demanding, figures like €2400/mth for the first person and maybe €900/mth for a second are being suggested, plus some say significant savings.

Also the the CAB in Spain have this to say:

RESIDENCY / RESIDENCIA

For all residency authorisations, to remain in Spain for periods larger than 90 days, you will need to apply for a visa from the Spanish Consulates abroad, and once in Spain, apply for your foreigners ID, the TIE card.

All residency authorisations will be issued for a limited period of time, initially, and need to be renewed when they expire. At the renewal, depending on the kind of residency/work authorisation you applied for originally, you will need to meet several requisites, some the same as initially, but special value will be attributed to the effort you’ve made to integrate. Your knowledge of various aspects of living and working in Spain will be valued, e.g. with regards to the Spanish Constitution and Statutes, the values of the EU, human rights, democracy, tolerance, equality between men and women, and naturally, knowledge of the official language(s) of your region.

To accredit integration you will need to provide a positive report from the Autonomous Region you reside in, certifying your assistance at educational courses relevant to the above mentioned subjects.

Not saying it will necessarily all apply to Brits but as 3rd country nationals it could.

For those UK citizens already living in Spain, whose residency applications have stalled because of Covid-19, I think it's only fair to point out that, at the top of the CAB page from which this extract is taken, it states, "Note: the following information is NOT for those already residing in Spain since before the withdrawal date."  So the requirements stated in the extract will apply to applicants from 1 January 2021.

Kind regards,

Kim

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

I reckon it would be hasta la vista to a lot of folks if those 'special values' had more importance placed on them.

the financial requirements if as quoted will reduce the numbers relocating to Spain dramatically, and really help the already struggling Spanish economy!!!! LOL

I was asking just to register (not apply for residency) if that is possible, and when if we relocate complete residency when we are living in Spain?

You can get an NIE any time but it doesn't pre-register you for Residency, it's a foreigner's identification number and you will need one to buy or rent property, take out a mobile contract, open a bank account etc, etc, anything which will link you up to the Tax office so if you intend renting out your property you will need one, along with a tax advisor for your quarterly tax returns.

thank you, I understand NIE. I read somewhere you could register for residency before Brexit and avoid the financial implications if it comes

into force, as with most wishing to move to Spain, we might not meet the required joint incomes, even though we have a good size budget for

a large detached Villa near the coast.
