My husband and I currently live in the UK but are looking to move to the Costa Blanca in the next 2 -3 years.  Calp is one of the areas we are looking at and are going to visit this Easter to check it out.  Could you recommend which districts in Calp are the best for expats, with amenities within walking distance.  We don't have a car so would need to be able to walk to places on a daily basis, and would also like to meet other expats and join groups etc.

The other area we have been told may be good for us is Benidorm as it's better for transport links, but Calp may be more appealing as more green and quieter.

Any advice on best districts is very welcome!

Calpe is no longer the tiny fishing village of my youth. It is now completely surrounded by residential areas, most of which are occupied by foreign residents.

I would honestly suggest that you come out and explore the local areas to decide what suits you. Most areas have some form of basic shopping and other facilities, with of course the majority of it in and around the main town.

There are all kinds of facilities and clubs and groups, most of which you will be able to explore more easily when you are here. The local English ex-pat news rag The Cost Blanca News does, usefully, carry pages of adverts designated by town/area for all kinds of activities.

The area is populated all year round, and is of course very busy during the holiday months, but in general is not quite so overwhelmed as Benidorm, although the port area is very heavily tourist oriented.

Thank you for this.  We have booked 5 days in Calp at Easter.  As I said our main concern is that we won't have a car.  I am also planning on returning to London every 2 months as I have commitments so will need to be able to get to either Alicante or Valencia airport fairly easily.  A Spanish lady who I worked with said that a lot of the smaller towns shut down over winter but from what you have said Calp is big enough that restaurants etc will be open over winter.
