Hello were looking to move out before December this year, with regards to long term residency can we apply for this before we have somewhere to live? Iv heard we need the residency in order to get a long term rental?! Or can we rent somewhere then apply for the visas etc?
If you're renting then you will expected to show a formal rental contract but you don't need residence for that.

That's great so we can rent as soon as we get there. Told we just need to show passports etc

Why post three identical questions?
If you have a long-term rental contract, then that would suffice as proof of address in support of a residency application.
Visas aren't needed until after the end of the Brexit transition period, and possibly not even after that.
You will of course have to meet the financial and health cover requiremenst in order to become resident.

I posted in 3 different areas....
So you don't think we will need visas after December? We want to move before December as think it will be more difficult after, do you not agree?

Hi Jim,
Your residencia guide was the key to my getting my residencia last year, and you're now the only source of advice I trust!
Unfortunately my partner was stuck in the UK with his parents at the time as he'd lost his passport, and we're only now in a position to seek residencia for him. Should I assume the requirements are currently the same as per before end Jan?
We're in our forties,so need evidence of income etc.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Kerry, the only thing that has changed is the amount of finances you have to prove, and I don't know how long ago that changed.
The national police don't publish guidelines online, but several people who've done the deed recently have said a regular payment into a Spanish bank of €900 a month, or a bank balance of €7000, per person, over at least a three month period.
If an appointment is made online, this will be at Alicante. However some, but not all, police stations are still doing residency applications, and you'd just have to go along and ask.
Elche police did put a notice on the wall a few months ago which didn't mention regular income, but did say they required a bank certificate confirming a balance of €7000 was required. It might be worth popping in and seeing if that notice is still there. If it is, that implies your partner could go to Elche instead of travelling to Alicante.
Good luck.

Hi Jim,
I'm being told many different things with regards to how much income we need to gain residencia.
If my husband is employed in spain then do we just need to show he's earning over €700 a month? Or do we also need a lump sum in the bank? I thought the lump sum was only needed for people who aren't working...
Also the €700 a month is that just for him or me and the kids also so €700 x 5 each month?

If your husband is working here on a contract and paying into social security then three months of that will qualify him for residency.
I'm not sure about wife and children - there's so much to read up on that I've kept my focus on retirees.
