I advise everyone with a mobile phone to take pictures of all your official documents, ie, passport, driving licence, resident etc. and store them in your file system or just leave in your photos folder. They could be very useful should you lose or have documents stolen.

Use your i-phone as a scanner to obtain "photocopies" from your docs. Install the free version of cam-scanner and off you go.
The dark side: the contens of your phone can be read out by anyone if you do not disable the "Bluetooth" function.

That's something I have been doing for years and you have given excellent advice.
It's worth doing photocopies and keeping a paper copy of all your documents too. If you don't have a printer/copier there are various places in your town that will help for little cost.

This is a good idea - I've always printed out copies of important docs too, but they do degrade over time, so useful to have them backed up from electronic devices too.
Another member, Denver, suggested something else that I think is crucial, because if you lose something vital, like your TIE, Spanish authorities only recognise notarised copies. I followed her advice to obtain notarised copies of my TIE, Spanish driving licence and passport (if you have a SIP card or EHIC/GHIC, they could be useful to have done too). It cost €4.00 per page and I wanted mine done on separate pages, so it was around €50 for both of us, but what price peace of mind? I now carry my original TIE and driving licence without worrying about mislaying them.
