Yes, I agree Ray, I replied back to them to say that Spain requires 1 year private healthcare which leaves us high and dry for cover fo Covid19 sadly.

But the EHIC will only cover until 31 Dec....I'm very sure they would treat you, it's whether you get a hefy bill afterward?? I guess it's the not knowing how things will change (i) due to Brexit and (ii) due to the virus and the economic impact that will have on the spanish economy. The gov. are all in fire fighting stages still so once some form of normality arrives that's when they might do some sweeping up??!!!!??

This is a worry but looking at some heat maps of where most cases of covid have appeared it looks like the major cities and or areas where there is a reliance on public transport have been worst affected. So outside of the tourist season the Costa Blanca should be a safer place than Madrid and London.
Like you, I don't doubt any sick patient would be treated but as you say if you are hit with a bill it could be enough to kill you.
So my thinking is if you could get to Spain without being packed into a plane or train then you are probably less likely to become infected. What impact a return to mass euro tourism might have is also untested with this virus as yet.
I can see the hypocrisy with my own thinking which is effectively; I want Spain to open up enough for me to get out there, buy a house and live there but not to let too many others join me from euro hot spots :)

Ray, the link to registering on the padrón, which says you must register if you stay here more than three months, is yet another example of GOV.UK giving incorrect advice.
You can only register on the padrón if your property in Spain is your habitual residence, so you can't register if you live here less than six months in the year.
Ref the Convenio Especial, you don't need to have been on the padrón for twelve months. As long as you've been resident for twelve months, that's all that Valencia require, and I have proof of that from one of our helpful members.

Thanks Jim. just remind me, does 'resident for 12 months' mean physically living there with an address or having your residencia card for 12 months?
Thanks

This is a question for Boris and co.
This is not driven by Spain or the EU.

The Valencian law re the Convenio just says resident here for twelve months - no mention of padrón or residency certificate.
One of the forum members kindly gave me feedback confirming that she got the Convenio even though her residency certificate was several months short of the twelve months.

Boris was asked last night on the news whether he would consider extending the Brexit date because of the virus. His answer was 'No, we're leaving as planned, there'll definitely be no extension!'
