If you go into the the main reception on the same level as the car park, you will see some check-in machines to the left of the elevator/stairs. Enter your SIP card number and it will spit out a ticket showing your appointment time, which room and a codeword and number. You then wait outside that room (or as near as possible) and watch the nearest monitor which should display the codeword and number shown on your ticket when its your turn.

However, in my recent experience, the TV screens don’t always seem to update in real time and they often just call your name - hence the advice to stay as close as possible!!!!

Hi

PaulandJoyce are correct - and when you are waiting they will probably call your name - after all you are there because you have a problem with your eyesight! When my missus goes for an eye appointment, they often call her name, which means that I have to be with her coz she's also very hard of hearing!

Btw, she has had one cataract done and is expecting the other one soon!

Cheers

Hi again

I think that's a bit "how long is a piece of string"!

In our case, from first appointment with the eye specialist (who placed her on the waiting list) to the operation was about 4 months I think. She had to go for blood test and ECG a week or two beforehand, and then see the anaesthetist.

We can't remember the precise timing, largely because she has regular appointments at the hospital and health centre and it's difficult to remember them all!

Make sure the hospital has your correct Spanish telephone number!

Cheers

Steve

Hi  it was a local anaesthetic. The bloods and ECG may have been because she is Type 1 diabetic.

Dear Ferryman, I see that you have received good advice after your request for information; may I add a little more info?  My wife was a long time in the eye theatre suite. I waited 4 hours and went to the cafe for a break. Although they give you a tracking reference, in my first two and a half hours of tracking the message was 'patient is in the preparation stage' or words to that effect. I would suggest that is when your partner/friend goes for a refreshment break. Things appear to be done in specialized stages and at each stage a new specialist will introduce themselves by their name, what their speciality is, and what they are going to do etc. There is no pain as the first drops take care of that but you can be told of what to expect at every stage. You leave with the eye protected with a shield as a precaution and I expect that you will be told not to shampoo or shower overnight. Normally you will have a few drops to administer at home a few days before the op; then some different drops for a month afterwards. Be sure that the hospital have your mobile number as they may not give you a date for months ( My wife waited 6 months - but that was probably disruption due to Covid). They appear to consider that the ECG, blood test etc is valid up to 6 months. I hope that all goes well, but we have to learn to be tolerant these days. Peter132
