Hello all,

Hope all well and staying safe.We are in lock down in UK (Devon) and are awaiting a  positive Gov review next week, into our seventh week of this ?Like so many we have not been able to visit our house now for over 5 months (were due to travel in March and of course the borders closed). We are of course watching your phased return to the new normal with interest here and really hope it all goes ok. Does anyone have any idea when property owners can return to their Spanish homes, with safety i.e masks, maybe proof not Covid carriers-tested,social distancing etc?We like many can use the tunnel(need to get through France first),minimal contacts on route etc.We do feel that we should have some priority as we pay all of our taxes and do have a home in Spain in our case for 16 years.Welcome any views and maybe you there have more details on news there in relation to this. Many thanks

Hello Scott, keep checking the forum as official updates are posted here within minutes. There has been talk of hotels re-opening for Spanish tourists but due to the very limiting restrictions which would have to be adhered to the hotels would be operating at a loss and are reluctant to re-open.
I believe that when Spain does start opening up the borders it is more likely to be limited to tourists from countries which have the virus under control, especially considering the likelihood of a second outbreak. I'm not sure that owning a property will come into it, it just adds to the frustration.

RayD your assessment  is sound. For anyone to contemplate travelling back just yet is ambitious,  so I would plan for September  and hope for earlier! The link above is for a French downloadable  form that they require for people travelling through France. Easy to fill in (I'm told) and helps the case if questioned.

Ray is right,

Spanish borders are open to Spanish citizens and legal Spanish residence if you are in that category then nothing is stopping you.

The British government lock down has stopped all non essential travel which would stop you travelling within the UK so until these restrictions are lifted you can't go anywhere.  To travel to any country where you country of legal residence has advised not to travel then you travel insurance will be null and void.

Keep safe and up to date with the latest information.  Devon is a lovely place to be in lock down and during April you have had far better weather than we had here.

Best wishes

"We do feel that we should have some priority as we pay all of our taxes and do have a home in Spain in our case for 16 years"

Counts for nought I'm afraid, rightly public health and safety trump all.

I totally accept your comment about public health,we here in England have been in lock down now for over 6 weeks and are saving NHS and lives! My point made is that we have contributed and continue to contribute to the Spanish economy,we have always paid our taxes, and I would have thought that we we deserve consideration by the Spanish Government as a separate category to the package deal holiday makers.

You never know, it may be a consideration but I think the overwhelming one will be where you are coming from. As the UK now has the highest number of deaths in the EU and 2nd highest in the world, I think the onus is on Boris Johnson, not Sánchez.

Well this comparison of figures between countries is not reliable as for example  are all Governments counting deaths in all settings like the UK?Opening all borders must be with conditions of course i.e proof by test not got C19,masks,further tests on entry to a country etc. Ok just wish we here in the UK shut out borders and introduced conditions of entry !All Governments will want their economies returned particularly Spain (we all know how bad it has been there before with a v slow recovery),and they will need us Brits to get back for that reason asp. So best Sanchez and other European leaders continue talking to our Government (no doubt those talks are all taking place).Take care ,stay safe.
