Hi all
Hoping someone can help me - finally out in Spain having been away for over a year and my pool… is green and slimy.
Could anyone possibly recommend the products/concentrations required to start clearing it ?
thanks

Best to get in a professional company. It will need draining and a proper clean. The chemicals put in when refilled. DO not put on the pump through the filter as the filter will get blocked up.

Ah thanks for that - thought there may be some magic chemical that would clear it. The filter has been on and running the whole time (intermittently) but still greened up..,

Get someone in to sort it out, it doesn't always need to be drained. A neighbour who was in a similar situation to you had theirs done without draining a few weeks ago. Lots of chlorine and 24 hours later it was crystal clear again. The pool guy said he has only ever had to drain the pool a handful of times in over 20 years. I seem to recall it cost less than €100.

Thanks very much for your replies. I’ve very kindly been left the property in a will… huge learning curve…
Just out of interest who do you guys use for pools/internet/tv ?
Any advice very welcome.
(I’m in Castalla Internacional by the way.)

Plenty of sacks of chlorine, 20kg will kill the algae bloom and then run the filter after twenty four hours. Draining the pool is a real last resort.

Suggest ...
Consum, Carrefour etc. sell buckets of Chlorine Shock. Start with 2 buckets full and see what happens.
Then - Add Algae control fluid (again, sold in supermarkets).
Then flocculant (the stuff that makes dirt clump and drop to the pool floor).
The packaging will have all the dosing/Instructions.
The above chems will cost around 90 Eu
We do the same as Kelvin each spring as we leave the pool uncovered all winter with reduced time for the pump. We hoover and net it and when it all looks good we take a sample to our local ferreteria who test it for free and can immediately diagnose if it needs a little tweaking.

Do NOT drain it! Top the water to the correct level, you will then need to “shock” it. Get a tub of 3 in 1 granules put half the tub in leave it overnight and in the morning brush all the surface walls and bottom, turn the six way valve to waste and run the pump, you will most likely have to repeat the process several times but after two goes you will see an improvement in the water and eventually you will clear the alga. Good luck.

Thank you so much for all your replies. I’ll give Carrefour a visit and see how we go !!
