If you feel strongly enough about it you can make a complaint about your solicitor. This link explains how to do so:

Are you sure this is not the 3% retention fee withheld and paid to the tax office on the sale of property?

Buyers solicitor held back money from the sale to cover any outstanding utility bills and the 3% tax. We are owed approximately 450 euros as the receipt for tax paid shows less than held as is the amount held for utility bills. The sale was beginning of April. I have had no help from our solicitors or the buyer.

I believe that legally, they can hold on to that money for up to 6months, quite possibly a year.  Its to ensure that there are no outstanding fines/penalties/sums floating around that haven't been paid yet or any undisclosed issues with the property that need fixing.

If you have an existing fine, it usually takes around 6months before you receive a Suma to pay it.

Thank you. Do you have to chase it?

Not sure, but it's something your own Solicitor should be on top of thus saving you the hassle.

Thought about sacking them and going with someone else?  They are, after all, supposed to be working for you!!!

Yes that has been considered.

Just so fed up with the whole business. You wonder if that is the plan. Thank you
