Hi Mark, myself and my husband have had a holiday home in castalla internacional for the last 17 years.

Castalla internacional is an urbanisation whereas castalla is a Spanish town (about 5 minutes by car away from each other).

The town has lots of bars, restaurants, shops and supermarkets - all very spanish. Mostly older properties and a few newer apartment blocks.

The urbanisation has a a mix of villas and apartments - a couple of estate agents, and 2 bars  both serving food - one is very english and the other is very spanish.

Castalla is a great base for exploring - about 25 minutes from the airport and the coast.

Hope this helps you but if you need to know anything else, please ask away !

Thanks

Tina & Brian

Hello Mark,

when looking for property, Castalla appealed to us too. However once there, we found it a bit too remote for ourselves.

Have you considered slightly closer to the coast? We discovered Algorfa has a lot to offer and prices are still reasonably but it's still has a lively feel and remains open all year around.

I'd also recommend Your dream home to assist you in your search..

Good luck.

Hotel Don Juan in Castalla an alright base but not the cheapest. As for not knowing where to reside assuming you want to purchase property the Valenciana region which encompasses Alicante are looking at 10% purchase tax plus your usual lawyers fees where as Andalucia is down to 7% and seem to be much more enlightened as to income tax on your pensions.

Hello you should put in a budget amount. It would help if you want to  buy privately. You need a lawyer and a will it's different to England.

Hi Mark

My wife and I brought a townhouse in Castalla last year. There are a couple of hotels plus a few air b&b's. It's a great town and can't recommend enough coming during one of the many fiestas.

I can also recommend speaking to the estate agent Yenar Inmobileria based in Castalla.

Happy House Hunting

Mark

Are you aware of the mega solar park (over 200 hectares) that’s planned to be built in Castalla? It will be built right next to Castalla International, destroying the beautiful landscape and views there. I fear that such an ocean of solar panels will cause even more soil erosion and will ultimately lead to even more desertification in Spain.

If I live there I would put up a fight against this project. But I can’t see any signs of protest against it except for a tiny petition in change.org that’s asking people to sign.
I don’t live there and I signed. Everybody should, no matter where they live. This kind of mega solar plants are definitely harmful to the planet. Cutting thousands of trees that undoubtedly play a vital role in reducing CO2 in the air, plastering the vast landscape with heat reflecting solar panels and destroying nature? That should prevent further global warming? To me, all that can’t be the right solution to ease climate change. Sadly, it’s happening in many lovely sunny places in Spain. And people don’t seem to care enough. I haven’t found any protest marches reported in the news. No big discussions on Spanish TV?

Tourism will be affected. Who would want to hike in nature and find themselves lost in a surrealistic sea of solar panels? They appear like great black scars to me and will look as beautiful as the impressive sea of plastic in Almeria.
Farming will be immensely affected too and Europe will have to increase the import of food. People of Castalla, people of Spain, people of Europe, wake up!

I admire the villagers in the Extremadura who have put up a fight against the giant lithium mining company wanting to exploit their rich nature. The people of Alacant should see them as their role model.

Can’t look any worse than all the scrubland surrounding CI at the moment. An awful mess.  Fact is that no one is certain of what will happen regarding the proposed solar farm right now as the project seems to have stalled. A solar farm would be much more beneficial than a new nuclear plant on the coast. Can’t have it all ways. Think the guy that I’m replying to here regarding this proposed solar farm is a bit addled as this farm should have no impact on agriculture in anyway shape or form. No one is talking about a big hole in the ground to mine for lithium chap, this is called progress and by the way, the panels are solar absorbing not reflecting. Suck it up.

My understanding is this this will effect castalla International. A modern development of new housing. I hope it will not affect the landscape and views too and from the historic town of Castalla.
