Hello all,

We are selling our house in Castalla and have a completion with the Notary scheduled for a June date or earlier. We want to buy another house in the Castalla area and are actively looking, stretching the digital world with the various estate agents to the limit! We have read that UK will allow legal travel to Spain if we declare buying, selling a house.Has anyone completed this declaration and travelled. We know you can get a declaration from the Notary, what about estate agents if you have several physical viewings arranged, can they supply a valid certification of appointments  ? Our buyers managed it and travelled from another EU country and bought our house. We are vaccinated(first one), against Covid but of course will have to take Covid tests as well.Anyone can advise who have managed to get over to do this ? Thanks

I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news. Just because the UK will let you travel that doesn't mean Spain will let you in, as it stands only residents/citizens are being allowed in and as far as I know nothing is changing anytime soon for brits.

Thanks for your response which is noted.Do you or anyone there really know what the 17 autonomous regions are doing from one week to the next?,planning to do? Where is the road map to unlocking? What we are asking is what we have been advised by estate agents,They have given recent examples of Brits visiting to sort out buying, selling property. We know one couple who had to pay for several Covid tests to/from Spain. Our buyers came from France and were able to visit to buy.

Personally I'd take the "visiting brits buying" with a pinch of salt, it's been well documented people have been refused travel to Spain when they only have a photocopy or picture of their residencia, let alone not having residencia at all.

If they are that confident about it being allowable travel, will they guarantee you are OK to travel and pay for any fines or flights you have paid for if you aren't allowed to travel?

As an example we aren't allowed to travel between regions unless it's for work, medical reasons or a few other legitimate reasons, buying or selling something isn't one of the reasons to travel. I am self employed and have to travel between regions, only Murcia and Alicante to do my job, I get stopped regularly in Murcia because my van is registered in Alicante and have to show my Autonomo and justification for travel, normally an appointment in my schedule or delivery/collection note.

The French buyers is possible, although still illegal if they aren't residents, after all there are many unmanned borders between Spain and France.

All that being said though, there are people who have managed to drive over and not been stopped, more by luck than judgement.

Thanks again Dazz very helpful and good practical advice, must be very frustrating trying to work for you. We are told here by UK Government that there is an International task force looking at International travel It reports on 12 April, view is travel will open up after 17 May if or course the 4 tests are satified i e, progress of vaccination programme, no increase in infection rates , reduction in hospital admissions ,no more mutant strains. At present good progress here on all counts so far. Hopefully we will get some  common sense soon before all our economies go completely  into meltdown and we all loose our sanity! There has been talk about vaccine passports but I am sure Covid tests will still have to be taken.

This is the current rule.

Suggest you keep an eye on this website.

https://english.elpais.com/spanish_news/2021-03-09/spain-extends-restrictions-on-travel-from-uk-brazil-and-south-africa-until-march-30.html

Spain will be keeping its regional boundaries closed until after Easter.

https://english.elpais.com/society/2021-03-11/spains-regions-agree-to-restrict-travel-over-easter-week-but-madrid-rejects-measure.html

There is some frustration here that people can Spain enter from EU countries and travel to their second homes, but that we cannot cross regional borders without very good reasons.

It does make you wonder how the UK can possibly move forward on the travel issue when two of their four criteria are almost impossible.

No more mutant strains.....happens all the time.

No increase in infection rates...no chance the kids have just gone back to school with increased testing.

Have the Government boxed themselves in ?

Well yes would agree.Yes of course the virus ,like any virus mutates flu is the example.I think they are concerned about the new strains v vaccine and how easily it infects others i.e.the so called Kent strain or where ever it came from, although it is all over Europe anyway! I am reading a book called Blinded by Corona by John Ashton, recommended. He covers history of all past pandemics and the so called Spanish flu in 1918 came from Texas in the US! Anyway we have to hope our recovery plan works,do far so good.I do not see much of a plan yet in Spain and 17 autonomous regions doing it in 17 different ways with Madrid open for business?!

Dazz,  people are flying to Spain, it’s true.

The airlines have a check list and if you fall into a category , you may travel. Nobody at the airport in Spain checks apart from the covid test results and the electronic form. why do you think flights are still coming in?

Are you saying brits and other nationalities are now allowed into Spain for holidays or other reasons even if they aren't residents or working here? That's great news, me and lots of others will actually be able to see our families again.
