Hi guys, what's the best way to get rid of a wasps nest and to keep them away from the house?
I know it's not possible to keep them all away but a deterrent would be helpful. Also, what is the best spray to kill them (I got stung as a young boy and now have a phobia about them)(and moths)

Depends on the size. If large suggest you get professional firm in as they will have protective gear etc. Otherwise you can buy effective sprays in most supermercados/ferreterias etc. They will kill the nest, but will not prevent newcomers! There aren’t any deterrents as such that I know of.

The size doesn't really matter. Just stand well back and give it a good spray with fly killer. Then knock the nest down to prevent it being re-colonised. Or, if you're feeling sadistic, use Oro or equivalent and leave the nest where it is - the Oro residue will kill any wasps that try to re-colonise it.

When I said ‘large’ I was thinking of the enormous nests I have seen in UK ie about 5 feet high and round! I would not be spraying those myself!!!

Spanish wasps don't do large nests like you see in the UK, so you're quite safe to DIY.

I have had nests in my garden. I would never kill anything so I waited till dark when all the wasps were asleep in the nest. I then put a large plastic bag over the branch of tree, cut it off and took the nest complete with wasps to an open waste ground and left the nest there. I made sure the wasps could get out of the bag in the morning. Hopefully they would then build another nest on the waste ground.
Errrmmm, didn't you kill part of the tree by cutting it off?
Not really possible here as they are in the roof of my summer kitchen.
