Hello there

I am looking for any help and advice and any would be very much appreciated

Myself and my husband are looking to move to Spain I found this little village and felt this would be nice

We are looking at long term rental and getting jobs to get by

Eventually in a few years we could buy but at minute looking to rent

We don’t have any money behind us only a house back in uk that we will rent out so that pays mortgage

Is this possible to do and can anyone give me idea of bills I would pay roughly and is there many jobs in catral or surrounding areas?

My husband has his own business back home as a dj he also has photo booths and candy carts would it be worth continuing his business in Spain?

Thanks for reading and will look forward to replies

Janice

Little to no work in Spain. Any you find would be in the 6-7 euro per hr end if you are not fluent in Spanish

You would need private healthcare in Spain which is expensive.

You need a chunk of cash to support you in the first few months.

You could earn enough to scrape by, but it's highly unlikely. Probably not a good idea.

If feasible, I would suggest you rent for a year and find out as you will have your house in the UK to return to should it not be for you. There is quite a big ex-pat community in Catral and surrounding areas but there are also issues with illegally built properties, especially in Catral. Too many of them to have to be pulled down and too much income, but could cost extra to sort out, however, these properties do sell. Doing most things in Spain legally takes determination but beware those that don't as fines are heavy.
Spain is a beautiful country to live in but it still gets cold in winter so make sure any property you rent has adequate heating, especially in the Catral area which is just inches above the water table.
I would suggest speaking to Uma at getlegalinspain as there are so many things to consider. Look at her website for more info and she is great for when the system says "No"!

I'm still here and loving it. All the best.

Also Catral is a bit out in the stix quite Spanish so if you did find work you would have to travel and I agree with other posters.

Catral is a great place to live. I have been here 12 years. Dolores nearby is lovely too. You have the lovely city of Elche just 15 minutes away and Alicante, Murcia and Torrevieja all within 39 minutes. Loads of bars and some great restaurants. As for employment. There isn’t much and what there is doesn’t pay well. Self employed is an option for your entertainment side. But bear in mind there are a lot of people doing it out here and unless you are well established the pay and work can be sporadic. Self employment is a bit of a nightmare. Do not ask for advice on these forums, only for a good Asesores (accountant) there are plenty who speak English and can let you know what is required. It is not the same as the UK. It will cost you around €350 a month to be self employed (Autonomous) and accountancy. Plus any license fees you will need. But great place to live and work.

Me and my hubby moved over start of may, lock stock and barrel.we have now bought a property up near catral, more Spanish but still some expats.

Jobs yes very hard to get,a lot word of mouth so savings a must.

But best thing we have done , good luck

In truth you will struggle without rent you need about 22 k a year for Bill's taxs and living experiences aslong as you dont get involved in the bar culture .

Not a lot of work only in the expat world but there are a lot of people already in the entertainment side .

Sorry but the cost of living is going up here ,petrol, electric is very expensive

We moved over 2years ago no jobs and 750 euros with a child and two dogs, 2 years later still here I work full time with jet2 at Alicante airport, I do not have to speak Spanish for it, my husband has a successful decorating firm out here, anything is possible if you graft and work hard
