Hearing conflicting information regarding written off cars after the floods. A car dealer tells me that the consortium will not pay out for a car until the car has been scrapped and they are supplied with the baja and other paperwork. My insurance broker is telling me that they pay out and you can choose what to do with the car. I know that people have been paid out for older, lower value cars but what about almost new ones, mine was three weeks old when it was made a write off because of the floods. Does anyone have information regarding payments recieved for new cars?

Hi, I know our friends had a new car that they lost in the flood and they now have another new car paid for by the Consortium.   Not sure of any other details though, sorry.

Hi
I had my brand new car for just over a year and they have not been to see it and assessed that it could be repaired just from the photos I sent, which is ridiculous as the car was submerged to the roof and is still thick in mud and sludge as I write.

I tried speaking to them but they have all the bases covered in their favour so I accepted the offer for repair and I am looking at a few thousand €‘s outlay to get back to the position I was in before. I was told to do nothing with the car until I have received official confirmation then I can either get it repaired (impossible) or the onus is on me to arrange to scrap it.

2 weeks later and I have still not received the official acceptance form and I reckon it will be 2020 before I can sort a new car.

Very poor service all round.

my Merc SLK that i paid 27 for 8 months ago was up to the top of the wheel arches..they paid me 22800 and i keep the car...i have a guy fixing it hopefully...my Kodiaq 8 months old cost 35 and estimate 20 for repair and they paid 18500...so dealer will repair that one...so the deal is they give you dosh and you keep the car...what you do with it is up to you...breakers will only give you 500 to 1500...

Thanks for that George. Makes me feel a bit better, my Audi Q3 was three weeks old, with 1000 klms on the clock, it cost 37k so keeping everything crossed.

depends on how deep it was Chippy, they will repair it if it was up to the  top of the wheel arches....above that scrap with full market value which is a bit less than you will pay for equvalent...

Georgetheseventh, not the case with my car, flooded to the roof, water 1.5mt deep and from the photos I sent said it could be repaired and didn't even come to look at it then offered way below market value. The dealership laughed when I spoke to them about repairing it. To be back in the same trim level of car I will need to put over €5000 to the offer they have made but I have still not received the paperwork from them and cannot do anything with the old car until they say so.

Received offer for house after 2 weeks again lower than expected and officially accepted at the end of October but still no signs of any movement from the Consorcio. When I first claimed the Consorcio told me the assessor had 40 days to present the offer. Very frustrating.

Not very impressed by how this disaster has been handled and some people near me are far worse off than I am they are without even a home to live in.

sorry to hear that Paolo...obviously different outcomes depending on who you get...my guy was very straight forward and told me the top of wheel arch definition of  Sinister as they call a write off...
