Hello we are buying a villa in catral, my question is how often cleaning of the septic tank needed and is there a local contact for this.

The people I know with EU standard septic tanks say about once a year (two people per property).

If you're buying one of the ~1300 illegal properties in Catral, with non-EU standard septic tanks, then I don't know.

As Jim says many are illegal if you have a poso negra septic tank soak away some never need emptying these are no longer allowed under EU rules! the new tanks are normally rated on size per person per year so depends on what you inherit you really need to do a lot of research to understand them and how they work and know what you have got! Just be aware the solicitor may say your property is OK but if it is illegal in any way you may have problems in the future do not use a solicitor from the agent that is selling as some are bent as a nine bob note to coin a phrase.
