We have been living in our home for three years and have received a bill for 260 euros for the previous owners.  We have asked our solicitor who was involved in the purchase to help, she has recommended going to the estate agent who in turn has said it was the solicitor's responsibility to keep some money back from the sale.  On the documents available at the time, the solicitor stressed that all bills on the property had been cleared.  Where does this leave us?  I should add that the previous owner had told us she was returning to the UK but I have heard she lives in Spain part time.  There is an NIF number on the bill. Surely SUMA should be able to trace her? I'm not a happy bunny!

Hi

I have just found out that the seller did not have an abogadas and used the estate agent to do the paperwork.  Are you saying it should have been my abogadas who retained some money?

We bought the house in June, 2017.

Thanks for your input.

Yes the lawyer who dealt with sale of the property should have kept a retention . Go back to the company and insist they are at fault as all good lawyers no to keep retention for least a year until all bills are paid or up to date . Don’t give up . Hope you get it sorted

You have to pay SUMA every year, it goes from January but usually get your bull about June. I would go to the Suma office for your area and inform them when you took over the house. It's very important to do this or the tax office will claim it if you leave it

Thanks for reply We went to Suma office last October as we were getting bills for previous owners They have dates we moved in last January and told us we pay nothing until I think June  .They are now sending a bill for 250 approx that previous owners hadn't paid They had asked for their address in uk bit we don't have it plus the bill is for someone who passed away
