Hello

Both my husband and I have prescriptions each month. For two years we have been paying nothing for them. Both have SIP cards and are pensioners and both residents and tax payers.  For some reason since our December 2022 on  collection of our prescriptions we now pay 10% of the cost.

Has anyone, any idea of why this is?

Thsnk you

Percentage payments are based on your tax assessment. Your tax situation has more than lightly put you into the next band up, which means that you pay the 10%. Pension increases, income, cost of living payments or any other form of income can cause this.

Hello

Thank you so very much for your reply. In the last tax year we had to pay a very large amount for capital gains on the sale rented property in the U.K.

Possibly, next year when on our basic pension it may revert to zero payment again. Even though we don’t have a problem paying the small amount.

Thank you once again for the clarification.

Regards

Marion

Yes, it was exactly the same for me, it'll be a change in your income tax status, though why it kicks in in December, God and the Tributaria only knows.

Where did that bile come from?

It was a simple question asked and answered perfectly civilly - until then, you owe an apology!

********

If you use the GVAsalut app that will tell you what you should be paying (Menu/Les Meues Dades/Dades Acreditacio) however being read only a SIP card cannot not reflect any changes made by INSS although they will be on your file at the pharmacy which is what they go by so if you believe you are being charged but shouldn't be (or should be but are not!) you will have to get your card updated.

As a complete aside, last year while looking for someone else to do my 720 I approached the much recommended firm of SGS Abogados in Benijofar where, in the course of conversation with one of their 'experts', they denied that there was any connection between tax and entitlement to free medicines. Between that and the eye watering price for the 720 (€400 or thereabouts) I demurred and chose to go elsewhere!

Finally if you are on a low income which would qualify you for free medicines then it's important to continue doing annual tax returns even if no tax would be due when technically there would be no requirement for it.

If I remember correctly, did you not post virtually the same question some weeks ago, and received more or less the same replies?
