We are moving to Catral from the UK.

Our daughter is 11 and due do start secondary school in September. She has very strong aspirations to become a lawyer and her education is the most important thing to her.

She absolutely hates the idea of being put back a couple of years in state school and that she will not do her GCSEs and A-levels.

We will do what ever is best for her and at the moment we are looking at international schools.

We simply do not know enough about Spanish schools and the education system to even be able to begin to convince her otherwise.

Any advise on the situation would be greatly appreciated

Lauren

Hi Lauren

We are looking at Catral with intentions of moving from the UK, we have 2 children and need to know about the schools in the area. Did you get any response and if so could you advise?

Many thanks

Sian

Hi Sian,

It really depends on how old your children are. Mine are 5 and 11. I was advised that my 5 year old would adjust really well to spanish school but would be put back as they start school later out there. My eldest would have no chance in a spanish school, a lady told me she tutored an intelligent 10 year old through to 16 and within that 6 years whilst she had become fluent in Spanish, understanding and learning new subjects in a spanish classroom proved really difficult and she struggled. I looked at a few international schools some of them look really good. The one I was looking at had no availability at the time and given I had so many doubts we decided to stay in the UK, I feel my children will benefit more from our education system here.

I hope this helps

Lauren x

In Crevillent there are junior schools as well as senior but I take the point that after 6 years a child will have difficulty adapting.  The nice thing about Crevi is that the local train to Alicante and private English/Spanish schools, which would suit your needs, are only a short train ride away.

Best of luck.

Richard
