My wife & I were granted Spanish Residency on the 18th January 2020. We returned to South Africa at the end of April to sell our house and are in the process of organising the shipping of our household effects from South Africa to Spain by 18th January 2022 to qualify for the duty free import tariff.  I have supplied all the requested documentation to the Removals agent in Spain, but have been informed that we will not qualify for the duty free shipment because the Padron, which we obtained on the purchase of our house, is dated 18th October 2019.  I would appreciate any comments from anyone having a similar experience.

It may be worth checking with your Ajuntamiento who issued the Padron, to the best of my knowledge they have to be renewed. In our area it is required every two years.

Hi a padron only lasts for 3 months for legal purposes only, you will have to renew it if you need it for official purposes but not otherwise.

As a resident in our area, the requirement is that it be renewed every two years.

Hi Stephanie

The point is that to do legal things it cannot be over 3 months old,

Hi Paul. An updated copy of the Padron was supplied when applying for Spanish residency, which was granted in January 2021.

What I fail to understand is why Customs would work on the Padron date of 2019 and not the fact that our residency card is dated 18th January 2021.

I see on my original post, I quoted our residency was granted in 2020. Should have read 2021 !!!!!

Hi

The authorities will not proceed with official processes unless your padron under 3 months old.

Hope this helps
