Can anyone tell me about the 100 odd cyclists racing through Benilloba today please? It looked like an important cycling event ?

The short answer is I don't know but if you are into cycling dates for you to take note of is between August 24 and September 15 when the Vuelta a Espana 2019 ( Tour Of Spain ) takes place.
The race opens with a flat 18km team time trial from Salinas de Torrevieja to Torrevieja, followed by a day from Benidorm to Calpe on stage two.

If all the roads were blocked then it was the 2nd stage of the Volta Communitat Valenciana which started in Orihuela on Wednesday.
2018 Tour de France winner Team Sky’s Geraint Thomas and many other World Tour pro teams involved.
