I don’t know for sure but I’d be very surprised if you could finance a car here without being resident.Maybe get a bank loan where you’re resident and buy the car with cash (bank transfer).

Hi mag56,

There's nothing in Spanish law that prevents non-residents from buying a car in Spain, but it's whether you can find a dealer who will be prepared to offer you finance terms.  As a minimum, the documents you'll need to provide are your passport, NIE, property deeds or rental contract (for a minimum term of 1 year), proof of income and municipal registration, otherwise known as the Certificado de Empadronamiento - but this last one is problematic because it's illegal for non-residents to register on the Padrón.

Friends of mine, who moved to to Spain 18 months ago on Non-Lucrative Visas, had all of the above documentation, but still struggled to obtain car finance.  They tried several dealers - Toyota wouldn't entertain them, but eventually they were able to get a deal at a Renault main dealer.

I think DUI's suggestion is probably your best option.

Kind regards,

Kim

You can't register a car in your name without a NIE. You would also need to prove your Spaish address, via padron or utility bill in your name at that address (mobile phone not acceptable) You certainly wouldn't get car finance. So it would be cash only, but the seller has to be prepared to not take it out of their name, or you have a friend with an NIE to register it in their name

The OP has an NIE - they wouldn't have been able to buy a property without one.

Sorry, I see you do have a NIE, and own your own property. Then you can certainly buy and register a car, but as has been said, I'm not sure you will get finance without showing income

If you own your property, and therefore have an NIE, go to a few car dealers directly and see what deals they have available. You don’t have to be a Spanish resident, but you may have to pay a decent deposit
