I have decided to leave this forum. I am grateful for all the help and advice given during these last few years, and I hope that I have also been able to help some people. Unfortunately, for some time now the level of verbal attacks on members has increased so much that it is no longer a pleasure to follow the discussions. The latest FCO advice topic has now reached 12 pages and most of the posts are unhelpful ‘tit for tat’. Obviously I won’t see any replies or comments to this post, so I just want to say thanks to all those that have remained polite, and of course to Alex and his team. Adios xx

Sheila64. I am sorry for you to go. You have been "helpful". I for one have gained info, laughs, & hopefully some help to others, as you have done. Simply, sort out wheat from chaff. It's only a mixed forum. Reconsider, but good luck & wishes. V

Sorry to hear this Sheila. Please can you report any posts that are offensive or rude and I will take action as I don't want this on the forum and don't want to see you go

Alex,

I started the thread with the FCO post and I've already given Unhelpful votes to the posts that Sheila is taking issue with - please would you would lock that thread.

Many thanks,

Kim

Hi Sheila,

I agree it's frustrating when some threads descend into personal abuse and no amount of appeals for respect help.  I've identified 4 members who have "track record" for this behaviour, but there are far more, genuinely helpful people on here - you included! - so please don't allow a small minority to force you into leaving.  Let's all report them instead and hopefully Alex will ban them.

Kind regards,

Kim

Sheila, if you are still around then please stick around,

Your ratio of helpful replies to number of comments posted is in excess of 80%. That means you are a very respected member of this Forum.

It would be a real sad loss if you were to go.

Please ignore the nasty comments and continue being a valued member of this largely friendly Gang.

I would echo LeckyLes’ comments. A few well respected members recently have expressed their sadness at the tone of some posts; they’re now noticeable by their absence. I look at it this way. If you allow them to drive you away from the forum, they’ve “won”. It does seem, as Kimmy says, it’s the same names that keep popping up.

Maybe we should just ignore them and not rise to their comments. Easier said than done I know; I’ve done it myself

Sheila, your remarks about being the chairman will live with me forever. I was, for a very short time, the chairman of a very small community (10 properties). Not in Spain I hasten to add. The amount of hand holding and sorting those very few properties generated was incredible.

Even if they’d offered to waive my communal charges, I’d still have said, enough is enough. I take my hat off to you.

The choice is of course yours. Perhaps just have a break and see how you feel 🤪🥂

Hi Sheila,

Fully understand where you are coming from, sometimes the vitriolic and caustic comments make me wince - but these people are in every walk of life, difficult to ignore. But.....I always appreciated the positive and helpful information that can be derived from the forum, so your decision to leave is met with great sadness. Collectively we all need the wealth of knowledge and support that most on the forum supply and I would certainly be less informed without that input.

As everyone above has said, maybe you could reconsider, if not now but at some point in the future.

Whatever your decision, all the best.

Bob

Alex, unfortunately this forum has been taken over by a few who use it as their personal whipping post, any criticism of Spain or the Spanish seems to be taken as a personal attack on these users, and we don't dare use the B word, my goodness do they go off on one if anyone does.

This forum would benefit from some fresh eyes on life in Spain good and not so good, but any suggestion on how things might be improved that is not agreed with is quickly snuffed out. They are totally blinkered to any suggestion that might improve life for everyone, in their eyes we are just whinging Brits.

What I would recommend is always report any posts that cross the line and break our rules. If the post isn't offensive but is just something that annoys you then it is always best to block the user, as life is too short to let these things get to you.
