I have been told that The govt lockdown has been extended until April is this true?

Well April is in 4 days time?

Hi Peter,

The Spanish government officially extended our lockdown to 11 April.  This afternoon, I was watching a podcast with PM Sanchez, who said they are likely to have to extend again to 26 April, but this has not yet been confirmed.

I can't say that I'm surprised - I'll continue to self-isolate until at least May!

The extension should not come as a surprise and the more people flaunt the rules or bend them to their own convenience the longer it's likely to go on for. 

Remember the smart money says a vaccine is at least a year away so until then all anybody can do is attempt to contain it and limit the numbers of victims to what the health services can accommodate without collapsing so best to brace yourselves for a good number of weeks to come before anysemblance of normality is restored.

I watched Michael Gove, MP, on Sky this morning, saying that the current estimate in the UK is that lockdown will continue until "early June", but that could change, depending on the behaviour of people in following the guidelines.

I know Spain is ahead of the UK on the infection "curve", but on that basis, I think we're probably looking at mid May for the end of lockdown in Spain.  

But, of course, even that is dependent on what is learned about reinfection rates in China, now that they are coming out of lockdown.

Good Morning having read through these post eating my breakfast  I am surprised why people are so concerned  with the time the lock down will last.  Does it matter how long it lasts as long as we are all well and survive.  My parents lived through the 2nd world war, 6 years.  

Their lives were curtailed blackouts living in air raid shelters little food they from what they told  me were bad times but they were always happy.

We have food, good climate and can sit in the sun in our garden or balcony.  We can talk to our neighbours from a distance and we have the internet and TV. 

Personally I dont care if it lasts for 6 months as long as I am fit and healthy at the end of it!!!

My father (92) also remembers WWII with a rose-tinted warmth that the passing of time often brings.  His older brothers (98 and 96) fought in that war; their memories do not have a rose-tinted glow.  Similar contrasts of experience are evident in our current crisis.

Like you, I have gardens in which I can relax and tend to the plants.  Some people may only have a balcony, some may not have even that.  

Although not retirement age, we're lucky not to have to work.  We own our properties in Spain and the UK outright, so no worries about how we're going to pay a mortgage.  Like you, we can afford to buy food and drink.  Many people will be worrying about how they can afford to eat, let alone keep a roof over their heads.  

What about business owners?  The longer this lockdown goes on, the greater the chance their businesses will not survive the crisis.  And what about their staff?  All of these people will be enduring a level of stress that you and I don't have to worry about.  Their mental health may well suffer.  These things may not affect me personally, but I don't doubt the worry and strain the situation is causing to many others.
