Hey Guys n Gals,

Just reading latest Covid contagion rate for over 60s here in Spain is just over 34%.

We are putting our masks back on in Markets and shops.

Obviously we are nutters but healthy at the moment!

That is down to the fact that it’s now only the over 60 age group still have to report a positive test to the authorities. With the exception of the clinically vulnerable.

As there are no testing or isolation requirements for  anyone under 60, the figure is obviously not a true representation.

It’s the fiesta season, celebrations are back to what they were pre covid days.In fact all the fiesta’s I’ve been to over the past few weeks seemed busier than ever.

Alicante last week was crazy, squashed like sardines in a tin. Oh and about one person in five hundred wearing a mask!

Surprising isn't it, when such a high proportion are fully vaccinated?

Yeh....& all those months wearing masks. Might be to do with passing on a virus via transmission, no? V

It’s just as well that such a large proportion have been vaccinated, as that’ll keep the death rate, serious illnesses and hospital admissions down

It’s sadly a way of life now, covid is going to get to most people these days, we’ve just got to get through it and move on

Hi Gordon,

Not at all surprising, given that we were vaccinated against the original strain of Covid-19.  The recent increase in cases is down to the more recent Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 variants, which is why Spain is delaying roll-out of the 4th vaccination dose until the autumn, so that they can take delivery of new mRNA vaccinations being developed by Pfizer and Moderna.

Kind regards,

Kim

Why are you surprised? The vaccine doesn't stop anyone from getting covid and has never claimed to, it is to help reduce the health risks if you do catch it

Being vaccinated for coronavirus doesn’t stop you catching it. I thought we all knew that. It simply protects us from becoming seriously ill.  It’s not the same as a smallpox vaccination but in due course we will all be given this type of vaccine ( heard on radio yesterday). The vaccination only covers us for about 9 /12 months hence the reason for the boosters annually. People with health problems are given their boosters very quickly for thus very reason.

Maybe all those warnings from Independent Virologists that these vaccines would cause Antibody Dependant Enhancement are proving true, and also explain why the vaccinated now require Booster shots of the same vaccine because they are now dependant on having their antibodies  topped up every few months? There are many studies showing the vaccinated have greater resistance for the first few months after a vaccine, but this wanes to less resistance than the un-vaccinated hence the need for repeated booster shots.
