Can someone please explain why pedestrians insist on walking in the road when there are perfectly good pavements to walk on?

It seems particularly common here in Montegolf, the pavements are in good nick so why do people walk in the road when the roads are more holes than road, surely more chance of a twisted ankle walking on the road than the pavements.

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

As RayD sez.........because they can. Cars take 2nd place after people....& why not. The only (my) grumpy point, is how people walk out in front of cars or silent bikes (pretending?) not to look. Normally the push-chair (with child)in front for protection, or the trolly's shopping. Look right, look left, no look ahead. Jajaja. I wouldn't change a thing! V

I admit that I often walk in the road when it's safe to do so. With arthritic joints I find it very difficult to cope with all the cross slopes to drop pavements. I'm OK going up or down, but not across.

And if you're a moro, then you have to walk on the road - preferably pushing a pram on the road first.

Just keep the mother in law between yourself and the traffic, and you'll be ok.

I walk in the road a lot as I find those tiny tiles pavements very slippy and I’ve nearly had a fall several times, especially when wet.

Pix Elated,  I think Kenneth 1 has it Spot on ! 😀

In the high season on Cabo Roig Strip walking in the road is the best way of getting from A to B if the hordes of 'Luckie Luckie 'Men are to be avoided.

for similar reasons to Jim,I prefer to walk up the roads, Ours are mostly one way so I walk up the ones im facing on coming traffic.the trouble is the amount of times I come across cars going the wrong way.

however if this is the only problem you have to worry about. its not a bad life.
