I spent 6 weeks in Alcalali and returned to the UK on the 1st September. When can I return to spain and for how long. I own a property in Alcalali but am not a resident.

You are allowed to spend 90 days in Spain in a rolling 180 days. So from the date you intend to travel again work out how many days you have been in Spain during the last 180 days.
Here is a link to an official calculator which helps you with the dates:

Owning a property here does not give you any advantage.

Assuming it was exactly 6 weeks (36 days) you have 54 days.
Hello Iris, sorry but I'm a bit confused here. On 7th August this year you posted that you were staying from 20th to 30th August but you now say you were here for 6 weeks. Please confirm the exact dates you have been in the Schengen zone this year.

I did stay for 10 days but my husband stayed for six weeks and returned with me on the 1st September. I think we can return to spain and stay a maximum of 48 days.

I'm afraid that calculator is as clear as.mud ,surely of you start from January 1 you can have 90 days up to end of June ,and then 90 days until end of December or is that too simplistic

You can have 90 days max in every 'rolling' 180 day period.

A little too simplistic. The 90 days doesn't start at the beginning of the year, it starts from the time you enter the Schengen zone. So it could start April 22nd if that was your first day.
If you take your example and stayed for 90 days until the end of June, you could then stay another 90 days starting on July 1st, which would mean you've stayed 180 days in a 180 day period. In reality you shouldn't return for 90 days after the end of June.
The way I look at is that you have 90 days in and 90 days out, for every day you spend in the zone you need to spend a day out of it (you could substitute day for week or month), starting from whenever you entered the zone.
I know I've taken your example to the extreme and no one would actually do that, I am just trying to explain how it works in my head 😁
