Thanks A letting agent is applying for us
They sent our details off
And they received confirmation by email to state our application was received.
We received a form to complete that, and listed requirements taken to letting office. And then to council office and told it takes time
We received a hand delivered letter ( delivered by police)
It was translated
We were given 15 days to send in a number from our deeds ( tax number)
This was taken into council office a week ago
I was just wondering if anyone was at this stage
And how long?

If you have arranged for a letting agent to do it for you then they should, surely, be ble to tell you what stage things are at. Be careful though, I have heard that some agents will apply on your behalf for the license but get you to agree that you will only use their services for letting out your property, and wont actually hand the license over to the home owner. The license (when you get it) belongs to the property - it will have the property owners name on it but it belongs to the property and can be transferred into a new owners name in the future.
It is suprisingly easy to look after the rentals yourself once you are set up, using a registered keyholding and cleaning service for meet-and-greets and cleaning. You do not need to use an agent for holiday letting. You will also need to register with the Guardia Civil to submit the guests passport details, obtain your plaque and compalints forms. However, until you actually have the Tourist License it is illegal to advertise the property or let the property (even to friends and family at mates rates) for holiday purposes - the fines are very high, so not worth the risk of getting caught.
When was the application for the compatibility certificate lodged? It sounds like some paperwork was missing and that is why you were asked to supply extra info. But if you supplied that to the Town Hall then you are still in the first stage. Once you have the compatibility certificate from the Town Hall the application can be submitted to the tourism office in Alicante. I have heard that much of the backlog has been cleared so the licenses are now being issued much more quickly than they have been for the past couple of years.
I have also heard that some parts of La Marina are having trouble getting compatibility certificates, so if you get yours please come back to let us know as it would be good to have up to date information. Good luck.

When you say it's Illegal to let to friends and family does that mean I can't let my kids use our place even though they won't be paying a penny ?

If they are not paying anything then they are not renting. People can use your house/apartment for free, but if they pay anything, even just to over utilities they use then it is classified as renting.

Hi Don.
The main bus runs along or clise to the coast road, with a diversion to Zenia Boulevard. There are also 2 bus routes around Orihuela Costa that overlap in Playa Flamenca so you can get around the area - they don't run at weekends out of season though. The main bus station is in Torrevieja so get the bus to there and you have lots of routes. New bus service to Orihuela too.
