If you can travel at that time then do so. Get off the plane and drink and be merry. The way the hysteria is going we'll all be on lock down soon for something no deadlier than bee stings (ok i made that up).

From what i gather, people here seem quite relaxed about it.......so far.

Don't take this personally but IMO it's a daft question, have your holiday and dont give it a seconds thought!

Carmel,

Three weeks ago there were no travel concerns in Italy and other countries.
Today March 9,  a very different story exists.

You will know much more in the next two weeks before you arrive in Spain.

This is an unprecedented event and the professionals expect Covid 19 to affect many more thousands of people all over the world.

Hopefully a vaccine will be found.

Best wishes

Maria

I’m flying out tomorrow with my husband and granddaughter.for a few days . We are staying in a friends villa .  If we were going to a hotel or were in our 70s with any health issues I probably wouldn’t .

Planes are like big Petri-dishes in the sky: If someone had to invent a unit for rapidly spreading a virus amongst humans, they'd end up with something akin to a plane. If you have to get on one, take a lot of precautions. If you don't have to get on one, don't.

At the present rate, it's looking like Spain is the next Italy.

You don't travel for two weeks, and In terms of the virus, that's a very VERY long time.

I'm due to go to Turkey in mid-April. We've already written that trip off. We would then be over to Spain most months from around May onwards, but we've pulled the plug on those trips too.

I'm not pandering to the scaremongers or over-reacting, I'm just adopting a sensible approach: The spread of this virus won't be stopped by government actions and guidelines but by people using common sense. A commodity in very short supply nowadays.

EDIT: That last comment comes across as aimed at people/someone here, it's not. It's just a general observation.

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Thank you for the update Ray .  We are flying into  Alicante and staying in Cabo Roig.   As I understand it there are no cases of the virus in that area at the moment .

Hi Carmel,

Like you, I am anxious too. It is possible that southern Spain might be relatively safe due to the fact that it is thought that the virus doesn’t thrive as well in the heat. If that is the case, you might be safer on the Costa Blanca as long as multitudes of infected people don’t all descend there.   Let’s hope that no more infected people in Italy will be allowed to travel until the virus has passed. It is so infectious because the germs all build up in the Lung and windpipe and it’s way of multiplying is by making us cough out tiny spores and this then spreads the germ.(badly described but you will understand my meaning hopefully)

It is without a very serious illness and I for one an more than worried. My husband was a smoker for many years and he is classed as being in the HIGH RISK group. I heard a doctor speaking about this very matter yesterday and it put the fear of God into me. We still know relatively little about how long this virus keeps us poorly for. Apparently when it attacks,it attacks the lungs, hence the need for oxygen and ventilators which most hospitals do not have enough of ( very costly)  Doctors have to make the decision who to give them to when there is a huge demand. This frightens me....what if they didn’t have a ventilator for my husband, for you or myself and we had an underlying illness?  It doesn’t bear thinking about and this is the reason that people like you and myself are asking if we should stay home or travel.

We are booked to go over on 23rd March and I am hoping that circumstances do not dictate otherwise.

By the way, the chap who doesn’t plan to go to Turkey in the near future may not realise that there is no Coronavirus there as yet.  We Always wipe down the surface of the table top on the plane, the safety belt clasp, the arm rest and anything in our space. We have done this for years as the number of times my husband became poorly when we arrived in Spain and other destinations were too many and pointed to the flight.  Wear gloves at all times when out and about...we touch doors, railings, table tops, endless germ ridden things. This sounds ridiculous and I don’t usually wear any gloves in Spain apart from cold winter days but maybe we all should!

Do what is advised,  wash your hands thoroughly, use alcohol based cleaners in your home and stay well.

I appreciate that is what is being reported, and if true (I find it unlikely myself, but Turkey is quite the dictatorship nowadays), if true, it won't be that way for long. As I mentioned, if it's free of the virus because those infected haven't travelled there yet, that is about to change; the season starts in four weeks.

As for wiping surfaces etc. in planes. It's the air circulation system in planes that are the problem, not the surfaces. Planes are 100% sealed units, so anything airborne that get's inside, stays inside and gets circulated, for hours and hours and hours.

The air-filtration systems on planes have been proven time and time again to be inadequate. It's why you often get a cold etc. after spending time on one. Add into the mix a reduced immune system from a week of drinking and eating junk (we all do it on holiday!) and you have the perfect environment for picking up a virus.
