Hi All,

We just moved to Crev from Scotland and have lots of questions.
We live just up the hill from the town. So,

What’s the best broadband?

What’s the best gas bottle supplier?

No wheelie bin system. So do we get 3 bins and empty them at the big bins down the hill?

At night is it full lock down security wise (shutters down all doors locked etc.?

Is it best buying Big purchases like electrical goods online or are there stores open?

I’m sure there will be more.
Looking forward to making friends here. We are quite healthy living fitness folk but we love to have fun too.

Lesley and John

I'm just up the hill from Albatera and as we have grills on all our windows they are left open permanently from about April to October. Doors are most definitely locked and we have installed cctv. If you have air conditioning you will want the windows closed and the shutters are not really for security (persianas) but are used mainly to keep the sun out to keep it cooler indoors.

Hello John and Lesley

I live a little bit down the hill from Crevi.   Best internet and phone is Telfy in Catral.   If you book with them on my recommendation I get a freebee - worth a beer...… I will share...

Take your bins of rubbish to the nearest large container - no problem.  I was on gas bottles for years until I changed to a (free)  tank but the Repsol guy is the cheapest and friendliest.  The Spanish in the campo are paranoid so they always keep a small light on near the gate ……

Ok course you keep the doors closed an locked, as you would in the UK, shutters are optional.

I have posted you for some time, look forward to meeting you in Crevi next week when lockdown is fase 2.

PM me please.

Kind regards

Richard & Elke

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Is there a racial tension problem here in Crevillente? Everyone we have spoken to so far has been lovely. We had planned to spend a bit of money on upgrading our house and making more of the space we have. We are also looking forward to bringing friends over to visit and cycle etc.

Is there a decent community here or have we made an error?

This has been a huge step for us and it’s a bit nerve racking anywhere new at the best of times.

Lesley and John, don't listen to them. I live in the next town and although I don't go to Crevi often, whenever I have everyone has been very friendly. I am not aware of any racial tension between the Moroccans and the Spanish in Albatera, they all seem to rub along nicely. I think we Brits have to remember sometimes that we have probably caused more upheaval to the Spanish in the last half century than any other nation as we have completely changed the demographic in many coastal areas. Most of the Moroccans can speak Spanish, can we say the same?

Hi John & Lesley

Do not take any notice of that racist!    There has never been any racial problems or tension in Crevillent.  We have lived here for 19 years and it is a great place to live and bring up kids.       At the Elche end of town there are a number of shops dedicated to Moroccans but it is perfectly safe and there is never any harassment.   I have always found them to be friendly and willing to help.

I organised an expat group last year and we had a lot of fun meeting up, especially for the Picnic in the Parcela which is a cheap and cheerful way to make friends - all are welcome, no fees, no committee!.

You have not made a mistake!!

Kind regards Richard & Elke

Isn´t it sad that there are still English racists active on the forum?   Hopefully Alex will remove him or explain why not.

Hi all

I spent 9 months of 2019 in Spain (in Quesada) and visited a number areas to look for somewhere I liked to buy my permanent home. I liked Crevillente, it has a nice feel about it, and the locals I met were friendly and helpful.

I found my ideal home up in the hills just before I returned to UK for Christmas. I'm stuck here in the UK as I won't risk travelling without the official say so, as I will be driving down in my van loaded with my essential possessions. Despite the lockdown in Spain, my house purchase went through without a hitch.

So will be there soon to tend to my overgrown garden, decorate the house, and find some furniture to fill it!

As for racists, they are everywhere. I take people as I find them, and an a******* is an a******* no matter the colour of their skin or their cultural origins.

Thanks Cpop,

That’s pretty much how we take things. We had to move out our house in Scotland and so packed the dogs in the car and drove armed with a French travel declaration, our NEI’s, the deeds to our new house and a lawyers letter to say we had moved permanently to Crevillente. The only time anyone really looked at things was at the spanish border. They looked at our passports and then read the letter. Showed it to the supervisor who said welcome to Spain have a great day.  It was a long drive but the start of our adventure. We are now isolating as per advice but can’t wait for our stuff to get here so that we can get on with things around the house etc.
I hope you get over soon. We love it here already!
