A friend of mine who is 68 years old ended up in A &E at Elx hospital for 4 days about two week ago.

The hospital took her SIP card but said there was a problem with it, namely the address and doctor were wrong because she had just moved properties and had not changed the details over yet.

After she came out of hospital we went up to the medical centre in Crevillent to sort it out where she was told that the SIP card had been cancelled.

We tried INSS in elx but it was impossible to contact them so we handed the problem over to a Spanish lawyer.

They have now come back asking for a S1 form, which after phoning Newcastle can not help has she does not exist in the UK.

She hold a Spanish DNI, her parent brought her to Spain when she finished school at 16 back in the 70s so she does not have a UK NI number so no S1 form can be issued.

Any help anyone

In this case a lawyer won't be of much help if of any, The best way is to talk to the card issuer in Crevillente and find out the reason for the cancellation. Then, convincing them of being an error, try to "reactivate". Many things can be settled by talking to the right people at the right time. Good luck - you'll need it.

I'm not an expert in this but my suggestion is if that doesn't work then perhaps she should speak to a socal worker in the town hall at Crevillente.

Hi

I would suggest that she goes and get a new padron for her area and then present that with her resident card to get a new sip card at the clinic she belongs to.

Good luck

Hello

If your  friend is a UK citizen & has neglected to update any UK  paperwork over the years it would seem to me that she has no entitlement to any UK based healthcare. I suspect the old SIP was  very out of date to be cancelled. Did she work in Spain, pay taxes  & receive a spanish pension?

Who can access healthcare in Spain?

  • a resident in Spain and work in employment or self-employment and pay social security contributions;
  • living in Spain and receiving certain state benefits;
  • a resident in Spain and recently divorced or separated from a partner registered with social security;
  • a child resident in Spain;

  • If this applies, try contacting the Spanish Healthcare system to see if her card can be reinstated
  • Cheers

She is a Spanish citizen who was married to a Spaniard until he died, she was born in the UK but was taken by her parent when she was 16 to live in Spain.

Her UK birth certificate was register in Madrid, she has two Spanish sons and 4 grand kids who are all register in the family book as she is. She got married in Spain.

She can not be found in any UK records at all. She holds a Spanish passport. The INSS keep saying they want a S1 but she cannot get one as she does not show up anywhere in the UK records.

The S1 healthcare form is only available to UK citizens who are receiving a UK pension or certain UK exportable benefits.
